Busy 40th Anniversary for Whippet Club Racing Association

THE 40th anniversary of the Whippet Club Racing Association proved a wonderful celebration of the whippet when the event was held at Moreton in Marsh.

The celebration included whippet racing, fun obedience classes, an agility scurry, a companion show and lots more.

Supported by performance dog food experts, Alpha Feeds, class winners received prizes from the North Nottinghamshire-based company.

WCRA secretary Kim Saxby said: “Although the weather was miserable at first, it brightened up later on the first day and we had a lot of great racing with some very close finals.

“All the proceeds from the 40th anniversary will go to the JR Whippet Rescue Charity a worthy cause very close to our hearts.

“Sunday was very much a 'Fun Day', with obedience classes, agility clear round scurry, KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme and a companion show.

“We were blessed to have the required elements; the sun shone and the atmosphere was brilliant. The judges had good entries and the 'Best Six Legs' class had a worthy winner whose dog wore miniature versions of white trainers and red socks just like its owner!!

“The obedience classes aren't a natural event for whippets so it was pretty impressive to see eight whippets laying on the grass during the 'down-stay' section whilst all the other activities were in progress.

“Flexi tunnels featured in the agility ring which caused a bit of amusement when an owner had to 'go first' in order to get their dog to follow.

“The Alpha Feed's sponsorship of the whole weekend contributed to the celebration of the WCRA's 40th Anniversary and its success.”
