THIS year’s National Whippet Racing Championships was a great success with competitors travelling from all over the country to take part.
Organised by the New National Whippet Racing Federation the event was sponsored by performance dog food experts, Alpha Feeds and took place in Derbyshire.
“Along with the continued support and sponsorship from Alpha Feeds the weekend event proved to be a great success, with much appreciation and thanks to our sponsors and everyone who helped,” said Linda Broom.
Ryck Turner of Alpha Feeds said: “The whippet racing world is very important to Alpha Feeds with many owners feeding the range and we are delighted to support the event.”
With more than 200 whippets competing for a National Champion title, day one saw the veterans racing in three weight groups.
This year’s veteran section was one of the best ever attended and resulted in the overall championship going to the lightweight winner Crystal Blue.
The next section on this day was the bitches racing in 2lb weight classes to find 10 champions and there were some strongly fought battles and very close finishes resulting in well earned titles. Beside the Point ran out the overall champions of champions.
Day two began with the Veteran Scratch Racers resulting with the Nottinghamshire-based Chunk heading the section and the last class of the day saw the overall championship going to No Joe from the North East.
With all 29 champions and runner-ups receiving trophies and bags of dog food from Alpha Feeds the evening awards presentation rounded off a very successful two days.
