06 Jul 2009Successful Classic English Whippet Derby
|
|
THIS year’s Classic English Whippet Derby moved to a new venue in Cullompton, Devon and proved to be one of the best ever. With a great turnout over the two days, excellent weather and top class racing, the Alpha Feeds sponsored event was a great success. In many of the races nail-biting finishes ensured some great competition and had spectators shouting on their favourite.
The Classic English Whippet Derby Supreme award went to Weardale Badger, trained by Chris and Anthony Horsnall from Newark. This was a remarkable achievement, Chris and Anthony winning this classic event for a third time.
Following the success of this year’s event, the organisers plan to go back to the same venue next year,
Said Christine Cornish: “We were delighted with running of this year’s event, it was brilliant with lots of spectators enjoying the racing and sitting in the warm sunshine.
“They weren't disappointed with many nail biting finishes which had to be split by the photo-finish camera.”
Other winners over the weekend were, Derby Supreme scratch; Geoff & Hazel's homebred bitch Sugar Mouse, Puppy Derby supreme winner; Dave & Emma Bowen's Sapphire Flash.
