Another Successful Working Test For Flatcoated Retriever Society

The Flatcoated Retriever Society held a successful working test for the Southern Area at Penshurst Place in Kent.

The day started with some trepidation, with one inch of rain forecast. Fortunately the weather faired up and the temperature rose.

The day ran with 11 Open dogs, 6 Special Puppies and 6 Novice Dog/Novice Handlers.

The Open was in the morning and consisted of five tests, the tests were designed to show the dogs that were working well with their handlers.

The retrieves consisted of a mark in long cover to a shot, a blind over a river, a mark in the river with distraction shot, a dummy over a fence with distractions on approach not to be picked and a walk up in long grass.

The Special Puppies and the Novice Dog/Novice Handlers all had the same four tests.

The first test the handler walked from marker (A) to (B) with dog at heal. A dummy was placed at (B) where the dog must sit while the handler walked to (C) to throw the dummy and then walk back past (B) and the dog to marker (A) where the dog was then sent back for the retrieve.

The second test was a marked retrieve followed by the third test which was a short walk up, with a shot and a blind under an avenue of trees. The last retrieve was a walk up in grass.

There were four awards in Puppy section and two awards in Novice Dog/novice Handler section.

A great day was had by all, with the results enhanced by the generous sponsorship of Alpha Feeds providing bags of food for the top dogs in each section.
