Success for Alex and Garry at Scottish Nursery Sheepdog Championship

THE Alpha Feeds sponsored Scottish Nursery Sheepdog Championship proved a huge success with more than 500 spectators turning out for the prestigious event.
In weather conditions that at times proved difficult the worthy winner was Alex MacCuish, and his home-bred, two-and- a-half-year-old Garry.
Held near Perth the championship is always very keenly fought and spectators travelled from throughout Scotland, the UK and Scandinavia to see teams of the five top young sheepdogs from each of nine Scottish districts, compete in the trial.
“Garry was a strong, feisty pup to train, but he is a great spotter of sheep at a distance, and when he had his eye test, the vet commented on the quality of his eyes. It’s borne out in the way he works at home,” said a delighted Alex.
Judge Stuart Davidson, said: “Alex handled the sheep just right. Garry got behind the sheep, and kept on the point of balance, while some young dogs overflanked the hoggs and upset them.”
John Walgate of Alpha Feeds added: “The world of sheepdog trials is very important to Alpha Feeds and we were delighted to support the championship once again.
“Sheepdogs need to be in the best of health, fit and ready to perform but also obedient and focused. The Alpha Feeds range suits their needs at every level.”
Runners–up, Alastair Mundell and Taff, were only a point behind Alex and Garry in this exciting competition.
